MBR is a process that combines the activated sludge biological treatment process with the membrane separation process. There are two combinations of MBR, split and integrated. The split type is to separate the biological treatment unit and the membrane separation unit, while the integrated type is to place the membrane separation element in the biological treatment unit. In general, small systems tend to use integrated MBR, while large systems prefer to separate the membrane separation unit from the bioreactor, which is equivalent to replacing the secondary settling tank in the traditional process.
Advantages of the MBR process compared to the traditional process:
◇ greatly reduced the floor space, thus reducing the cost of civil works;
◇ Better impurity removal rate, no blocking and turning over the pool;
◇ better effluent quality, SDI ≤ 3;
◇ Improved biochemical treatment process, increased volumetric load, extended HRT and SRT, greatly reduced sludge discharge, thus reducing the cost of sludge treatment; facilitating the removal of ammonia nitrogen;
◇ The operation is more stable.
